Artist and Curator Conversation
Listen to an engaging artist and curator conversation with Treaty-4 based artist, Audie Murray and curator Tak Pham. The artist conversation will be hosted in the Shumiatcher Theatre from 7 PM – 8 PM, followed by the performance by Matthew Cardinal within the Audie Murray: To Make Smoke exhibition space from approximately 8 PM – 8:30 PM. A reception in Craft Service Cafe by Crave will follow.
We are thrilled to announce that the artist conversation will feature American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.
About the Curator
Tak Pham
Tak Pham (he/him) is a Vietnamese contemporary art curator and writer. He is currently curator of the Illingworth Kerr Gallery at the Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary, Alberta, Treaty 7 territory. He was formerly associate curator at the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina, Saskatchewan, Treaty 4 territory.
Pham holds an M.F.A in Criticism and Curatorial Practice from OCAD University and a B.A. Hons. from Carleton University. He has curated exhibitions and organized curatorial projects for the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Contemporary Calgary, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Varley Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Ontario, and Nuit Blanche Toronto, among others. His writings and reviews have appeared in Canadian Art, C Magazine, ESPACE art actuel, esse arts + opinions, GalleriesWest, Studio Magazine, ArtAsiaPacific and Hyperallergic.
In 2023, Pham was awarded the Hnatyshyn Foundation-Fogo Island Arts Young Curator Residency.

Special performance by Matthew Cardinal
Matthew Cardinal is an amiskwaciy (Edmonton, AB)-based musician, sound artist, and photographer known for his work with Polaris Short List nominee group nêhiyawak. His music utilizes modular synthesizers, vintage analog equipment, electric pianos, and samplers to create cinematic and dreamlike soundscapes. Cardinal’s solo full-length album Asterisms was released in October 2020 on Arts & Crafts.
