Theo Sims is a blow-in, born in England, now residing in Point Douglas, on Treaty 1. His installations often focus on the juxtaposition of the familiar and everyday with some form of contextual subversion or perversion. His sharp sense of humor is often fused with the social, ephemeral and personal.

Sims has presented his installations across Canada in Toronto, St. Johns, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Calgary and has presented in several solo and group exhibitions in the UK, Ireland and across Europe.

His work has been reviewed or featured in Canadian Art, Abridged, C Magazine, Circa, The Irish Times, The Sunday Times, The Globe & Mail, Border Crossings, BlackFlash, The New York Times and Maclean’s Magazine.

The Candahar was on view at the MacKenzie Art Gallery from April 20 to September 25, 2016. The exhibition was curated by Michelle LaVallee, Associate Curator at the MacKenzie.

The artist would like to acknowledge artist Rebecca Belmore for her reinstallation of Indians Only inside the Candahar on September 23, 2016.
