Charming and full of character, these hand-sculpted sheep capture the warmth and whimsy of Anna Malkin’s ceramic artistry. Each piece is individually formed and raku fired — a traditional Japanese technique that produces unique metallic and smoky finishes. The result is a delightful blend of texture and sheen: the black sheep have gold heads, feet and tail, the gold have black heads, feet and tail, the white sheep feature a soft, wool-like surface with black head feet and tail, while the crackle finish sheep shimmer with hints of bronze and blue with cracks in the glaze and also have a black head, feet and tail.
Perfect as a standalone art piece or a thoughtful gift, each sheep carries its own gentle personality — a small reminder of the beauty in simplicity and handmade craft.
Stoneware Ceramic | Approx. 9 cm H x 10 cm L | Made in Victoria, BC
Care: Handle with care; surface may be delicate due to the raku process.
About the Artist:
Originally from Saskatoon, Anna briefly attended the University of Saskatchewan (Fine Arts) before migrating to Toronto and The Ontario College of Art. After a first year in ceramics, she gravitated toward audio and video work and graduated in that field in 1990. Her return to ceramics is a welcome change from her computer-centric video work.
