TELLING DETAILS: The Architecture of Clifford Wiens
26 May 2007 – 26 August 2007
Clifford Wiens Heating and Cooling Plant, University of Regina, 1967
TELLING DETAILS goes beyond the ‘fashion show’ approach of some design exhibitions that rely solely on photographs, to also use textual explanations, video footage of the architect, original working drawings and stunning new scale models built expressly for this exhibition by the architect, to interpret and explain the ideas and principles implicit in his design work.
This exhibition both “tells the details” of Glen Kerr-born Wiens and his work, and also finds the “telling details” — the essential ideas in each of his built creations. (Written by Trevor Boddy, Vancouver-based Art/Architecture critic and historian, exhibition curator of TELLING DETAILS).
TELLING DETAILS is organized and circulated by the Mendel Art Gallery with support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the City of Saskatoon and through a contribution from the Museums Assistance Program, Department of Canadian Heritage. At the MacKenzie, this exhibition is made possible through the generous support of the Donald and Claire Kramer Foundation. CBC Regina is the local media sponsor.
