Join us for the 1st MAGnificent Pumpkin Parade!
This year, we have created a COVID-safe pumpkin carving contest, with 4 different prize categories, for youth and adults alike! Simply carve your pumpkin at home and bring it by the Gallery for judging and display.
This contest is open to everyone, but registration is limited. Registrants will be able to take their pumpkins home between 2-3 PM on 31 October*, in time for Halloween.
$25 gift cards to the MacKenzie Shop will be awarded to pumpkins in the following categories:
Scariest – Youth (17 & under)
Most Creative – Youth (17 & under)
Scariest – Adult (18 & over)
Most Creative – Adult (18 & over)
Most Creative – Youth (17 & under)
Scariest – Adult (18 & over)
Most Creative – Adult (18 & over)
Pumpkins can be dropped off during Gallery hours on Wednesday, 28 October and Thursday, 29 October, or between 10 AM and 1 PM on Friday, 30 October. Judging will take place on Friday, 30 October, and the winners will be announced at 2 PM that day via the MacKenzie’s social media.
We will have all of the pumpkins on display on Saturday, 31 October beginning from 10 AM to 2 PM! The first 25 visitors wearing a full costume will receive a sketchbook and MacKenzie pencil.
*Please note that any pumpkins left at the MacKenzie after 3 PM on 31 October will be disposed of.
CONTEST RULES
- The pumpkin carving contest is open to everyone, except for MacKenzie Art Gallery staff, who may carve and display a pumpkin but are not eligible for the contest.
- Pumpkins must be carved and finished at home.
- Pumpkins must be less than 45 inches in circumference.
- Pumpkins must be cleaned out with an entry point on the top. Solid pumpkins are not allowed.
- Pumpkins are not to be painted or otherwise decorated. Only carved pumpkins will be entered into the contest.
- The carved pumpkin must be able to stand without any support or back drop needed.
- This is a family-friendly event, so entries may not include: (a) obscene, indecent, discriminatory, or insensitive depictions or images; (b) profanity or other material deemed inappropriate or offensive. If an entry includes any of the prohibited elements above, the entry will not be shown, and contestant will be disqualified.
- Drop off and register your carved pumpkin at the MacKenzie Visitor Services Desk.
- Pumpkins must be dropped off at the MacKenzie Art Gallery on:
- Wednesday, 28 October or Thursday, 29 October during Gallery hours (10 AM to 5:30 PM).
- or Friday, 30 October from 10 AM to 1 PM.
- Pumpkins will be adjudicated by MacKenzie staff from 1 – 2 PM on Friday, 30 October in 4 categories:
- Scariest – Youth (17 & under)
- Most Creative – Youth (17 & under)
- Scariest – Adult (18 & over)
- Most Creative – Adult (18 & over)
- All participants should be prepared for their pumpkin to be photographed and displayed on social media.
- Once registered, you’ll be given a number to be pinned or written on the back of your pumpkin.
- Winners will be announced after 2 PM on 30 October on the MacKenzie Art Gallery’s Instagram and Facebook.
- Contestants will be allowed to take their pumpkins home between 2- 3 PM.
- All unclaimed pumpkins will be disposed of at 3 PM.
